New Products

Here at S & J's we are always on the look out for new products to add to our range of quality grocery.  The lovely people at Birdhouse Teas have blended two new ranges, which we have added to our stocklist.

The first range is formed by the addition of four more teas to the original "Yorkshire Rose" which we have held for some time.  Two of the newcomers represent the Coast and the Dales.  The third is called "Brew" and contains Hops.  Finally, what could be more Yorkshire than Rhubarb?

The second new range is "Rooby".  This is a selection of four rooibos (or rooibosch) teas.  Mader from the leaves of the rooibos (or Red Bush) plant, these are naturally deecaffeinated.  The blends are:Pure, Orange, Vamilla and Earl Grey.

The final new product is something very different.  Locally packed cider vinegar from Ali and Me.  There are two varieties.   They are made from apples grown in Suffolk and Cornwall.  The Suffolk orchard in Soil Association certified, and therefore has Organic Status.  The Cornish orchard is farmed sensitively.
The vinegars are unpasteurised and unfiltered.  The fermentation process prevents decay, so no heat treatment is required.  The fact that they are unfiltered means that they have a cloudy appearance, due to the presence of the "Mother", ferment, a natural and nutritious sediment.
Many health benefits are attributed to cider vinegar.  Customers are encouraged to research the product and take any necessary advice.

Red nose day

Today (Friday 13th March) was "Red Nose Day".  Various stalls in the market did things for the theme.  We offered the opportunity to Guess the weight of an Edam.  The winner gets the Edam.

The correct weight was 1.880kg.  The nearest guess was 1.850kg.  £25-00 was donated to Red Nose Day at our stall.  Thank you to everyone who helped.

March is Cheese Month.

For the month of March we are focussing on our extensive cheese range.  We usually stock over 80 varieties, and this month we are offering some of them at bargain prices.
For March only, we are selling at least twelve cheeses at the low price of 75p per 100g (subject to availability).  The twelve are:

Pie month

For the month of February, all pies are 20p off.  This will enable customers to try our extensive range of pies at even lower prices.  In addition, every pie sold will be accompanied by a voucher worth 10p off another pie after Easter

Potters' Pies.

Recently we have added pies made by Potters of Barnsley to our range.  There is a range of different meat pies, pasties, steak slices and different sizes of pork pies.  We can take orders and set things aside if requested.

Recent events

There has been a lot going on in the market recently.  Su. got her face painted.

 There were two visits by an animatronic polar bear.  He was not a fierce as he looked.

 

We had to get ready for Christmas, and this included taking a picture for our Christmas card.  Christmas is an important time of the year for us, as the stall is only our day job.  We are also pastors at a small chapel in the Mayfield Valley, just outside Sheffield.  More details are available at mayfieldwrc.blogspot.com 

The card had to be printed, along with the greeting inside, and the copies of the vouchers for the coming year.  Once printed, they all had to be put into envelopes.

More new products.

 We are very pleased to be able to bring a new and innovative product to our range.  Little Doone Foods have produced a range of Balsamic dressings, both sweet and savoury, ranging from strawberry to whisky through garlic.

 Yorkshire Crisps are made locally, at Wales, near Rotherham.  There are 10 varieties, and we attempt to stock all of them.  Currently they are priced at £2-25, or 4 for £8-50 (correct as at October 2014)

 Scarlett and Mustard produce a range of dressings.  Currently we stock nine of them.  They are  named after members of the family who produce them.  The Colonel's Poppy Seed Dressing is produced in memory of two family members who served in world War One.  One pound is donated to the poppy appeal for each bottle sold.  The company also produces Truffle oil, and several curds.

Ringden Farm farm orchards and produce apple juice.  They bottle a range of single variety apple juices, of which we stock ten, ranging from sweet to dry.  Currently on sale at 3 for £9-00 (October 2014).
